One in four Americans suffers from a mental illness each year. For children, the number is one in five, and half of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin prior to age 14.
You can help someone get the help they need – you may even save a life – by simply asking, “Is everything okay?”
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a free eight-hour training that teaches members of the community how to help someone who may be developing or has a mental illness or who is in crisis. MHFA teaches you:
- Signs of mental illnesses
- The impact of mental illness
- A simple five-step action plan to assess a situation and help
- Local resources and where to turn for help
There are two different MHFA classes: one that focuses on youth and another that focuses on adults. You can choose the class that best meets your needs.
Keep checking! Dates will be posted
here as classes are scheduled
This class is offered at no charge thanks to a generous grant from the Kansas Health Foundation. FSGC partners with Valeo Behavioral Health Care to teach this class throughout our community to anyone who wants to attend.
